We got suckered...

Rob was taking out the trash early Friday morning and this little fur ball jumped out of the bushes and started rubbing on his leg, mewing it's little heart out.  He called me outside and one look at it's blue eyes and I immediately fell in love.  It was friendly but pretty dirty and skinny so we think it may have been dumped by someone.  The poor thing ate an entire can of food and seemed like it drank its weight in water.  We thought it was a boy at first but after a quick trip to the vet we learned he was a she.  Aside from some ear mites the vet said she was fairly healthy and probably about 3 months old.  She got medication for the mites and her first shots. By the time we got home we had decided to name her Luna.  She looks to be a mix of tabby and Siamese.  She's mostly cream colored with gray ears and faint tabby stripes on her legs and tail.  She has gorgeous blue eyes and has the sweetest personality.  She seemed so even-tempered and friendly that we introduced her to our other 3 cats after only one night.  So far everyone seems to be taking to her quite well, which is truly remarkable.  Hopefully things will stay peaceful going forward.  Click the link after the photo below for more photos.

Goodbye to an old and dear friend

This morning while getting ready for work, we found our oldest cat, Hobbes, was struggling to breath.  We took him to the vet this morning as soon as they opened.  I'll spare everyone the sad story but he died shortly after arriving.  Thankfully he didn't suffer.  This was not entirely unexpected as he has not been doing well lately, but it was very hard nonetheless.  He was in my life for 8 of his 16 years and I will miss him greatly.

Wasabi got his first boo-boo

After a long day at work Rob and I came home to find Wasabi squinting.  A closer look showed a bloody left eye.  Of course, we panicked, called the vet and headed up there to get him checked out.  They checked him over and found it was not a surface scratch but actually deep in the eye itself,.  The vet thought that maybe he had run into something, hitting his eye and busting a blood vessel.  He seemed confident that it was nothing to worry too much about unless it got a lot worse over the next day or so.  He gave us some steroid drops, said that his body would probably just reabsorb the blood and assured us again that all would be OK. (We must've still looked horrified...)  The poor little guy is zonked out on my lap right now from all the "excitement"...    We'll probably never know what happened.  I just hope it's from kitten clumsiness and not one of the other kitties bullying him.

Please welcome the newest member of our family...

This is Wasabi.  He's around  4 - 5 weeks old and was saved from the local animal shelter today.  He's a pale beige color with light orangey-beige bands around his legs and tale.  He's a little sweetheart!  Click the link to read more and see more photos.

Isn't he precious?  If they could only stay this wee!  We're confining him to our bedroom for now, giving him a few days to acclimate to his new home before we attempt introducing him to our other 3 cats.  Emma and Mazy aren't fooled though... they spend several minutes sniffing and inspecting me every time I emerge from the bedroom.  Hobbes, on the other hand, could care less.  He lifts his head when he hears Wasabi cry but otherwise just goes back to sleep.  Of course that will all change when the actual introduction takes place...

My kitty is a true Southern Belle

This is Mazy.  She has recently discovered that she likes sweet iced tea... a lot!  Anytime Rob sets down a glass full of tea here comes Mazy!  First she must gently sample the goods by politely dipping her paw in and having a taste, as you can see below.  Once she has verified the contents down she goes!

One might think that this would explain her expanding waistline but Rob uses artificial sweetener...

Cute title/caption needed...

I shot this photo of my kitty Mazy this afternoon and thought it was kinda cute. Unfortunately, I'm just not good with titles or funny captions. Anyone have any suggestions? Feel free to place them in the comments section.
